1. Russian President Vladimir Putin Signs Order to Allow His Rule Till 2036:  The Highlights of this news are: ⦿Russian President Vladimir Putin, 67, signed executive order on July 3, 2020 officially altering Russian Constitution.

⦿Rules allow him to run for two more six year terms, staying power until 2036.

⦿The changes come into effect from July 4,2020, the order states.

⦿It comes after Putin claimed victory in vote  which was widely thought to be rigged.


2. French Prez Macron Names Jean Castex the New Prime Minister:  French President Emmanuel Macron on July 3, 2020 named Jean Castex, who coordinated France's virus reopening strategy, as the country's new prime minister.

The relatively low-profile Castex replaces Edouard Philippe, who resigned earlier in the day. A conservative, former member of the Republican's Party, Philippe had joined Macron's government in May, 2017.

Macron is reshuffling the government to focus on restarting the economy after month of lockdown.



3. US officially Notifies World Health Organisation of Decision to Withdraw from the UN Agency: 
⦿The US State Department sent notice to the UN on July 6, 2020 that it would end its 72-year-old membership in the WHO.

⦿"The President has been clear that the WHO needs to get it act together," a state department spokesman said. "That starts with demonstrating significant progress and the ability to prevent, 
detect and respond to infectious disease outbreaks with transparency and accountability."

⦿The exit won't take effect until July 2021 leaving it contingent on Mr. Trump's re-election.

⦿The president says the WHO, the UN's chief global health institution, is under China's sway and has failed to respond adequately to the Coronavirus Pandemic. He has said the US would redirect the funds it currently sends to the WHO to other deserving, urgent global public-health needs, because the agency failed to make reforms the US had desired.
"They are a puppet of China", Mr. Trump said in May at the White House. "They give us a lot of bad advice."

⦿The notice of withdrawal came as WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned on July 7, 2020 that, the "outbreak is clearly accelerating and we haven't reached the peak."


4. Sri Lanka and Maldives Become the First Two Countries from South-East Asia Region of WHO to Eliminate Both Rubella and Measles: This was announced after the 5th meeting of the South-East Asia Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination, which comprises 11 independent international experts in the fields of epidemiology, virology and public health, held virtually.

⦿Maldives and Sri Lanka--In Maldives measles was last reported in 2009 and rubella in October 2015, on the other hand, Sri Lanka had reported last cases of measles in May 2016 and rubella in March 2017.

⦿Target for 2023--All the 11 member countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, North Korea, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand) of the South-East Asia Region of WHO set year 2023 as a target to fight measles and rubella in September 2019.


5. Germany is First Major Economy to Phase Out Coal and Nuclear Power: The arrangement is important for Germany's 'vitality change' - a push to wean Europe's greatest economy earth warming petroleum products and create the entirety of the nation's extensive vitality needs from sustainable sources. 8. Taiwan Holds Military Drills Against Potential China Threat:  ⦿ The drills were part of a five day annual exercise that ended on July 17, 2020.

⦿ Assualt helicopters launched missiles and fighter jets dropped bombs on targets at sea, while tanks and missiles trucks fired from a beach to deter a simulated invading force.

⦿ "We want the world to see our determination and efforts to protect our country," President Tsai Ingwen said, observing the exercise in a helmet and camouflage military fatigues.


9. 'Chan' Santokhi, an Indian-Origin Politician Elected president of Suriname:  Chandrika Prasad 'Chan' Santokhi, an Indian-origin former police chief has been elected as the president of Suriname, a country in South America. Santokhi leads the progressive Reform Party of the country. He was sworn in as President on July 16, 2020.
